What is Phoenix Possible: This
is a theremin project you can
learn and grow
with. Start by building one
board for a beautiful Pitch Only theremin. Add Volume Control later. The
Phoenix solid state board is basic to tune. Every adjustment is set halfway
with a slight tweak of the IF coils. Use a nearby AM Radio or listen for
the heterodyne whistle through your computer with a stereo cable plugged
into the Phoenix board Out-2B Jack. Because the Lev Antenna needs to
function in the AM Radio band for perfect pitch field linearity you
should tune your Pitch Board to be in between any AM Radio Stations in your location from
850 kHz to 900 kHz..

The Phoenix PCB Size is 3”x
8.2” with a board score so that the board can snap apart for various
enclosure sizes. I have found the ideal hardwood box for $12 from
Amazon; you would
need to use two boxes and two Phoenix pc boards for a complete Pitch/Volume theremin.
You could set them up like the Lev Sergeyevich horseshoe U shaped
theremin design.

The Pitch is virtually drift-free,
instant on with no

Have perfect
pitch field linearity using
the Lev Antenna concept
Have a natural voice

that
does not need artificial reverb or digital enhancement.

jack (Out-2B), best
used with an external headphone amp or Pre-Amp.
Pitch Preview
has instant auto-volume-increase
from silence when the theremin voice quiets. (add-on)
Mute Switch (T5), totally
"click-free" with a LED-1
or LED-3
that indicates mode!
Volume Control can be stand
alone and placed anywhere around you for left or right playing!
(use one Phoenix
pc board with any pitch only theremin)
Volume loop can control a super bright LED
torch to vary light with the volume level. (add-on)
Volume shading 12" down to 4" or
flip- a- switch to make it
a snappy shading for
staccato
Volume Shading
can have a "wide" inside quiet range for intimacy
Volume Shading
can have a preset outside field first-step response to attenuate 5% to 50%.
(add-on)
A natural
sound
rich in even harmonics for a voice that is sculpted
by the users own adjustments.

reverse the direction of the Volume response so a downward motion pops the

More Study
Possibly create a 0-10v
Control Voltage with
the Vactrol, 1K to 15 Meg resistance swing. Substitute the 7809
with a 7810 for a 10 volt swing. This would need an Op Amp source follower buffer added.
Needs More Study
Modify the boards Out-2B
3.5 mm jack to deliver a 9 volt p-p frequency variable square
wave.
3.5 mm TRS (1/8”) stereo
jacks are used for all power and audio output connections
Stereo jacks work good
with either stereo or mono 3.5 mm plugs.
The Pitch Output is level
adjustable using Pot-1 to drive
a guitar level or line-in amplifier from the Out-2B
on the Pitch Board. Output-1 on VC can be modified to pass the signal
to the Out-2B jack for an alternate cable direction using the three holes
drilled in the bottom of the enclosure box.
Very few if any loose wires are
used, all of the Jacks and Pots solder
directly on the pc board. This avoids the issue seen with the Theremax
internal rats
nest. Theremins need design cleanliness.
